You cant help but smile when you look at the smiling face of this little guy waddling his way through life. I suspect that was the objective for creating this type of jewelry in the first half of the 20th century. Living through a Great Depression and 2 world wars, you would need something to make you smile. This piece may also be inspired by the early popularity of Donald Duck, who was first introduced to the public in 1934.
This lovely brooch is made of pave clear rhinestones on a cast pot metal body. The eyes feature sparkling ruby red oval cut rhinestones while the belly is detailed with a round emerald green cabochon. The beak and feet are given a yellow gold tone wash.
The condition is excellent for its age. The plating is in near immaculate condition, bright with little signs of wear. The clear rhinestones do, however, show some darkening consistent with age, and the yellow gold finish to the beak and feet are not a bright as they likely were when new. The green belly and ruby rhinestone eyes are both bright with no darkening or scratches. The rollover safety clasp and riveted hinge are secure. The measurements are 1.5 inches in height, and .75 inches max width.
