This is a souvenir bracelet from Lakeside, Ohio Chautauqua community. It is hand beaded "Lakeside on Lake Erie" in red beads on a ground of mint green beads. Gold beads outline the lettering. It dates from about 1910. It is in amazing, near mint condition for a piece of this age. There three beads absent from the base of the L in Lake, otherwise beading is perfect, completely intact and very sturdy. The bracelet is 7-3/4 inches long and a bit over one inch wide.
There were once hundreds of Chautauqua communities throughout America. They were founded as religious camps where Bible study was held at rustic, country settings to promote physical as well as spiritual health. Today only four original Chautauqua locations at still in existence. Lakeside, Ohio is one of those four.
This keepsake souvenir bracelet is a scarce treasure from a bygone place and time.
