For sale is a charming antique late 19th to early 20th century folk tramp art sewing box that I acquired recently. The design was completed in fretwork, and depicts butterflies, plants, and hearts. Additional details have been added to the butterflies using tiny brads. Behind the fretwork, there is red paper that enhances the design. There is a red velvet pin cushion on top that is filled with raw wool, and surrounded by chip carving. The perimeter of the lid and bottom, as well as the sides have also been enhanced with chip carving. There is a mirror surrounded by chip carving inside the lid, and the interior of the box is divided into 2 sections. There is twisted string that holds the lid in place when open, and it has brass exterior hinges on the back, as well as cut tin shield, almost heart shaped, on the front. . This wonderful antique sewing box measures about 11 1/4" long, 6 1/2" wide, and 6" tall including the pin cushion. It is in very nice antique condition, with and aged patina and expected wear on the pin cushion, but no major flaws. Please look carefully at the pictures as they are an important part of the description, and be sure to ask any questions. What a delightful addition to your collection of antique sewing collection!
