For sale is a vintage folk art rare form melon basket. It was made in the South, in North Carolina, I believe. It is completed in two different colors of oak or ash splints that form two thin stripes on each side and a wide stripe in the middle. Above the God's eye on one side, written in pencil, it says Lee, $3.50. I assume that this is who made the basket, and the original price, so I would date this basket to the middle of the 20th century. The basket measures about 12" long, 7" wide, and 3 1/2" tall not including the handle, which adds another 10" or so. The basket is in very nice condition, with only one small area with a tiny bit of missing splint, just below where the penciled writing is. Please look carefully at the pictures as they are an important part of the description, and be sure to ask any questions. What an outstanding addition to your collection of vintage and antique baskets!
