For sale is a superb and rare antique early 19th century folk art reverse painting of a young family seated at a table, including the mother holding a very young child on the left, a boy in the middle, and the father holding a telescope on the right. There is a large mirror on the upper left, and a window on the right where a large house framed by trees can be seen in the distance. At the bottom, the painting is titled "Happiness", and above that is marked "Painted by D. Gerolimo". The portrait is housed in a period black and gold frame, and measures about 16 3/4" x 12 1/2", with sight measurements of 14 1/4" x 10". It is in wonderful antique condition, with minor wear to the frame, but no noticeable issues with the painting. It should be noted that the painting is a bit brighter than the pictures show. It should also be noted that the painting was removed from the frame for examination, and the original wood backing was replaced with acid free foam core board before adding a paper backing and wire hanger. The 3rd photo shows the back of the painting. Please look carefully at all of the pictures as they are an important part of the description, and be sure to ask any questions. What a wonderful and rare addition to your period decor!
