This Czech Jeweled Brass Filigree Open Salt Cellar has an intaglio glass insert and was made around 1920s-1930s. All of the Czech jeweled brass open salts are gorgeous and highly collectible but I believe this one, on its raised jeweled platform, is the best of the best!
The triangular shaped brass filigree base has a second ornate layer of filigree on top and is heavily jeweled for a very regal presentation. The base has 3 large glass, blue lapis stones, each being surrounded by 1 cabochon turquoise and 2 faceted amber glass stones. In the center is another turquoise stone poised on top of an ornate filigree dome that’s designed with tiny hearts. 3 cabochon caramel colored stones fill out the base.
Rising up from the base are 3 arched brass bands that are joined together by ornate elements creating a seat or holder for the glass salt dish. Each of the 3 bands has a central decorative oval turquoise stone, and at the top, a fabulous brass female head wearing a bouffant hair style, tipped with feathers.
The crowning glory of course is the gorgeous amethyst glass salt cellar, intaglio cut with the figures of Venus and Cupid. Also intaglio cut is a border of bars and hearts around the bottom edge. Completing the lovely round salt is elegant facet cutting around the outside and a smooth polished edge. This delightful jeweled filigree open salt would be an outstanding addition to your open salt collection, or, for that matter, would be a great compliment to any collection of Czech jeweled filigree objects.
