If you press the pedal, the wheel will go round albeit it protests. This is a nice vintage spinning wheel that I had posed with my two Shaker dolls, and I thought it looked pretty darned neat. It's a bit nicked here and there. It's probably from the 1960s or perhaps earlier, just judging by the quality of the turned pieces and the pedal and the wheel itself. It stands firm and is just an inexpensive yet very nice accessory for the doll who makes her clothing from start to finish--like the Shakers did.
I have to admit, I don't know if there is anything missing. I think spinning wheels had components that were put on or taken off as needed. This came to me as is and it looked good with the Shaker dolls.
Dimensions are: 9.5"tall, 6" long, and about 2" wide. The dolls I had with it were 12" tall. If you look at my Shaker dolls listings, you will see it with the dolls. To me, the proportions are good.
