I bought this many years ago at a show in Ottawa, Canada, simply because I thought it was beautiful all on its own. I've had it on a German lady doll's head for years. She has since sold and I love cloth dolls now, so I will let this delicate, undamaged net cap go.
The white net is cotton as is the rick rack trim. Dimensions on the bonnet are 4" around and 3" deep. The lappets are about 2" extra on either side, and would trail down the front of a doll's bosom, The Limoge doll's head is 7" around, without a wig--to give you an idea of bonnet size vs. doll's head size.
By looking at the fabrics and the tiny cotton ties, and the sewing, I'd date this bonnet to the early 20th century. Perhaps earlier, but I try to be conservative in my dates, unless I really know. It is the perfect French Fashion item--perhaps worn as in-home dress, paired with a nightgown. The little basket goes with the net bonnet. Free First Class Shipping on this item.
