Here's a natty little fellow, with his cornflower blue painted eyes and his happy smile. This is the beloved Kammer & Reinhardt 'Kaiser' baby beloved by collectors for years because of the wonderful artistic skills that created this fabulous face. His compact size of 11" makes him even more endearing. He is in wonderful condition; no cracks or rubs to his head anywhere. His original composition body is still fresh with some little scuffs here and there. There is wear to the varnish on his little hands--which looks much worse in the photos, but no damage. His stringing is still fairly tight.
I think the little undershirt and the booties are original to him; they fit like a glove and I had a hard time getting those booties off to show his feet. And he has a belly band, which is very old. Does anyone remember the purpose of a belly band in the old days? I think the 1950s is the last era that such a thing was used on a baby--to keep the belly button from herniating. Sometimes they put a coin against the belly button (after the cord fell off, of course) to make it a nice, even 'insy'.
I didn't pull the little knit undershirt too much for fear of tearing it, but his body is in lovely condition. The gown and slip and jacket are all antique but not original. His crochet hat fits him like a glove.
He is fully marked K star R with '28' underneath the letters. His body is stamped, in red, 'Made In Germany'. His head is 8" in circumference.
The last picture is just of him and some of the other dolls I'll be listing. The chair is just a prop and not in the listing, either.
What a wonderful little fellow. He comes with his super-sized baby bottle. He's a growing boy, after all. Thank you for stopping by my shop. Please ask any questions. I'll be happy to answer.
