A rare and juicy antique ring of mystery depicts speed, vision and power, in a 15 Kt Victorian signet ring with a secret key below its florid, fancy, shield imprinted with the name Lathrop. The key is unfelt but slides open when the ring is removed. This is a solid and historical beauty bearing a crest engraved with a knight with a shield and an eagle in flight. It is certain that the knight who owned this ring had stature and was vested with high responsibility. What did the lock this solid key opened that was so important that the key had to be worn and kept secret? The knowledge remains hidden in time but brings us back to a world of knights in armor and an era before ours to which we are connected by history, imagination and humanity. Researching the name Lathrop, I find a family from Yorkshire, England in the 16th century. The ring condition is excellent. It is size 8 1/4 and can be sized by a fine jeweler. 14mm north to south. This is a fabulous and rare example of a beautiful antique ring.
