A symbol of faith, love and loyalty, hand painted in sepia on white parchment, is a miniature of two woman at a plinth on which is written "Affection Weeps, Heaven Rejoices". One woman, the older, comforts the other who holds a handkerchief to her eyes. An urn rests on the stone. The reverse notes John Rosby, died 28th of March 1794 at 54. Faithful to Filial duty. The older woman at left has her hand raised with a finger pointed to heaven showing the faith of the family. At her side a large anchor stands, the symbol of loyalty and fideltiy. A willow tree hovers over the pair, appearing as a protector and life continuity. As are Georgian rings, the ring is curved to approximate the curve of the finger for comfort. The crystal and closed setting have kept the image unscathed. There is some wear to the crystal, appropriate to age and use. It is heart warming to have a jewel that shows a family that lived over 200 years ago and connect with their emotions. This was before photography kept images of our lives and was a way that our forebears honored and maintained connection to their loved ones. Size 6 1/2 and can be sized by your jeweler.
