A FASHION EXEMPLAR… No doll was a better model of childhood fashion in the 1930’s than Patsy. These long legged dolls with coltish legs, blushed knees and short waists were perfect for the over the knee fashions of the day. No wonder that a Patsy in Factory Clothes is such a joy.
Factory Beachwear, for the dolls of this Era, is one of the more unusual garments to encounter. The accessibility of the automobile to the average family made beach going an American family pastime in the 1930’s and Patsy was an American girl.! Here she is in a brightly striped commercial Play Suit which includes her Matching Sun Hat. It features bell bottoms and a bolero top. Patsy is lucky to have her period Beach Umbrella too. She is all set for fun at the shore!
THE ORIGINAL PATSY…is the 14” example and is marked ' Patsy Pend.’ like this one is. This piquant doll was introduced in 1928 in this 14” size. Patsy started quite a craze and soon became the forerunner of the now iconic Patsy Family of dolls with ‘family’ members in a wide range of sizes from the 6” Wee Patsy to the 30” Patsy Mae. She became a mainstay of Effanbee and has been continuously popular since her inception. People love her as much as M and M’s candy and collect as many Patsy as they can in all the different outfits. This sweet Patsy, with her happy face and colorful beachwear still evokes the spirit of our childhood Summers.
