THE FRENCH TRADE MARKET…For the doll collector the word ‘ Paris ‘ evokes not just images of dolls but all the wonderful accessories that accompanied them. We are all familiar with the term ‘French Trade” and how Geman doll makers provided heads and certain dolls to the French Market. But the same was true for accessories. The coveted Marklin baby carriages are an example of something German that doll collectors love to pair with their French Bebes.

Such is the case with this Pre War baby carriage produced by Georg Adam Mangold whose company dates back to 1882 Bavaria near the German toy making stronghold of Nuremberg. He traditionally produced metal cars and trucks for Boys in the period before World War I. This luxurious Baby Carriage with its metal undercarriage, hard rubber wheels and Golden Hubcaps gave him the opportunity to take advantage of the vibrant doll market for Girls in both Germany...and France. This Fancy Carriage has elaborated pleated and tiered organdy trim. Within the carriage is a quilted and pocketed layette with the matching organdy trims. The pocket contains a 3.5” French Celluloid Baby of exceptional quality with jointed arms and legs, intricate bisque like modeling , molded and painted hair and the tiniest little fingers.!

The dimensions of this rare buggy are: 4” long by 3” deep by 3” tall…4.25” to the top of the handle. How wonderful it would be to have a little Nanny pushing the buggy alongside one of your Lady Dolls.

It is shown here suitably posed with a 9” French Trade Simon Halbig 749 in its Factory Chemise with Original Wig and White Leather Shoes…with a French Shop Label.! Look for it in our Shop where it is available for sale separately. Of course you may have your own doll already looking for a carriage just like the one here.!

Marks: Embossed GAMA on each of the 4 wheels. GAMA is an acronym for the founder of the firm: G-eorg A-dam MA-ngold.

Condition: Quite nice. The baby is mint. No chipping to the paint of the wire frame, rubber wheels or undercarriage. The softer bodied basinette is slightly curved on one side.
