Here we have a signed modernist brutalist movement one of a kind bronze sculpture depicting a saxophonist dating to 1981.
The body of the saxophonist has almost dissolved into the abstraction of the music being played, an outline remains and the moment captured in the bronze with him swaying to the rhythm of the music, he performs atop a solid stone dais.
This art bronze is so evocative one can almost hear the music, sense the atmosphere of the smoky club, feel one with the audience.
The bronze sculpture including the base measures 12 3/4" tall by 4 1/16" wide by 3 13/16" deep (323mm x 104mm x 97mm). At the bottom of the sculpture the dimensions of the marble base are 2 15/16" tall by 2 5/8" in diameter (75mm x 66mm).
This lovely modernist bronze is in excellent condition, the small bronze peg on the bottom of the right foot has fatigued however the peg on the other foot is very secure, the statue is very secure in the base with no looseness or movement. The natural stone base is in beautiful condition with no chips or damage.
It would make the perfect addition to any home with mid century modern decor, perfect for the music room and a divine and unique gift for any accomplished or aspiring saxophonist!
