Here we have a divine high polished antique Qing Dynasty Chinese hand carved natural untreated agate snuff bottle in the shape of a pumpkin. In Chinese feng shui folklore pumpkin is a symbol of abundance.
The agate here has some lovely color banding and variations. The pattern of the natural agate can be seen most clearly viewed from the bottom of the bottle but the banding which is lovely indeed can be seen on the sides of the carved bottle also in places. The lid is slightly lighter in color to the body of the bottle and the tip of the lid has a natural point of brownish orange coloration.
This wonderful bottle is entirely hand carved and dates to the 19th century (1800s) or earlier it is not a reproduction.
The shape is that of a pumpkin.
It's hard to describe the color here accurately - it's elegant and pretty and is a gray violet to a creme gray. The pumpkin shaped bottle is mostly gray violet the shades of grayish creme can be seen to the lid and base of the bottle.
The lid is contemporaneous to the bottle and it is in beautiful condition with no damage. Of course over more than a century the original spoon and stopper are no longer present the stopper here secures with a rubber stopper and holds tightly to the base of the bottle.
This stunning hand carved snuff bottle measures approximately 1 11/16" in diameter by 1 3/4" tall to the tip of the lid (43mm x 45mm).
It presents beautifully and makes a gorgeous display.
The high polished surface of this antique hand carved agate bottle and the shape and size make it lovely to hold and of course it is beautiful to look at.
