Here we have a Shang Dynasty bronze ritual wine vessel and cover.
Phoenix and dragons decorate this vessel in slightly raised relief over a leiwen (cloud and thunder) pattern decoration.
This is an exceptionally rare archaic bronze dating to 1100 BC.
The condition is somewhat deteriorated over thousands of years of burial. It is not visible from the outside of the bronze but viewed from the inside there are small areas where the bronze has corroded through. In excellent condition this ancient bronze vessel would fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars in auction. This is an astonishing antiquity which presents beautifully.
With the handle in the position it is shown in the photos it measures approximately 11 3/8" tall by 7 1/8" wide by 6 1/2" deep.
A certificate of authenticity will accompany this rare bronze.
