Rochester Dairy was born out of a small cooperative establish in 1922 by Dr. Charles H. Mayo of the world famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mn..  He started the small dairy cooperative in order to insure a supply of fresh milk for his Rochester hospitals.  In 1925 Dr. Mayo sold his dairy interests to several businessmen who officially founded the Rochester Dairy Co.

Even though this two sided sign has the Rochester Dairy Logo on each side we believe because of the nature of the painting and the weight of the sign (8.13 lbs) it was likely created by the local grocer/merchant "Pete's" whose name is on the sign.  This sign appears to have been hung in the elements for many years.  One side shows more fading and wear while the other side has good color and appears to have been more protected.  The one protected side does have two rubbed areas with finish loss, one to the right and the other to the left of the Rochester Dairy logo. Regardless of the weathering and wear issues this sign still looks great and remains structurally sound.

If you love old local/regional one of a kind advertising signs this one has lots of character and displays especially well.
