This set of pretty Century-old Dinner Plates by Johnson Brothers, England are decorated in blue with gold trim and named "The Lothair," presumably after the ancient king. With gold accent outlining, the pale gray-blue flowers vining around the scalloped rim seem to sparkle in the sun. The embossed rim is carefully decorated with rope-like scrolls and more twisting vines in this pretty monochromatic design. Each plate is also edged in gold.
Each scalloped plate measures 10-inches in diameter.
Made by Johnson Bros. England, the backstamp is a blue crown mark with the words The "Lothair" above and "Johnson Bros England" below. This mark dates to around 1913.
Vintage pieces are not perfect and may show minor flaws, and I do my best to describe any imperfection. All four have surface scratches, and three each have an old, shallow edge chip on the backside edge that does not show from the front. The largest of these is just under 1/4-inch across. This is an exceptionally pretty set of four dinner plates from the post-Edwardian Era.
