This Jeannette Square Covered Wedding Bowl, or candy dish, is difficult to find in black glass. The square base is made up of tiered layers, each with its own unique design. The bottom tier has a series of angled ridges, the next layer is smooth, and the next has five protruding glass beads. The bowl echoes the base with a series of ridges around the bottom edge, and the rim of the lid has rounded ridges. Four tiers of glass complete the cover, the top one forming a knob handle with a row of three beads on each side.
Though many companies produced these Wedding Bowl candy dishes, this design was made by Jeannette Glass circa the 1940s to 1950s. There is no mark.
The bowl measures 5-inches tall with the cover on, and 3-7/8 inches tall without the lid. The square bowl is 3-1/2 inches across, with the opening being 3-inches across each side. The foot is 2-1/4 inches across each side.
Unfortunately, there is a chip on the underside of one corner of the lid, and a minuscule nick on the mold seam of the corresponding corner of the bowl. Other than the expected flaws characteristic of vintage glass such as creases, mold seam roughness, or other irregularities, there is no other damage. The condition is reflected in the price.
A perfect dish for small Halloween treats!
