Exquisite and unusual, this Tressemann & Vogt Limoges France Squat Vase is decorated in Hand Painted Roses and Signed by the Factory Artist, Roby. Roby's beautiful roses leave no detail to chance in the signature hand-painted deep pink and white large blooms that circle this vase. On a muted background of celery green fading to cream, each rose blossom is finished in lifelike detail on a bed of variegated leaves in shades of green. The texture of the painting adds to the play of light and shadow on the piece. The delicate stems wrap around the vase and end in tightly closed pink buds with long sepals. A dash of sunny yellow backing the largest trio of blooms makes this piece a true work of art. Adding to the elegance, the circular opening at the top is lavishly covered in gold.
This unusually-shaped vase measures 7-inches in diameter at its widest, with the ring of the foot measuring 5-1/4 inches in diameter. It is 2-3/4 inches tall and the ring around the neck is 2-3/4 inches in diameter. The opening is 1-3/4 inches in diameter.
It is double marked, first with the underglaze green T&V inside a rectangle coupled with the words Limoges France that was used from 1892 until about 1907. The second mark is the overglaze purple T.V. Limoges bell with “Hand Painted” inside the double circle surrounding the bell. This mark was first used about 1907 and continued to be used by Tressemann and Vogt, Limoges until about 1919.
There is some wear on the gold rim, but the beautiful hand-painted roses are clear and bright. There are no chips or cracks.
