Offered for your consideration is this stunning Early Dresden Line Flowered Bowl with Pierced Rim by Schumann Bavaria Germany. The Early Dresden Line is very similar to Chateau but with less decoration on the rim. A central multicolor bouquet of Dresden flowers features a deep pink rose and a large, fully-open, seven-petaled, purple flower on a waving stem, surrounded by smaller flowers in oranges, blues, yellows, and purples with appropriate greens. The scalloped rim is decorated with reticulated lattice work alternating with cut-out floral panels separated by gold-trimmed scrolls. Each lattice panel is topped with a solid v-shape cartouche with a different small flower as though plucked from the center, and each cut-out panel of flowers is truly an exquisitely detailed work of art. The panels, scrolls, foot, and scalloped rim are trimmed in gold. The outside of the bowl also has touches of gold trim and leaving no detail incomplete, sweet single flower blossoms also dot the outside of the rim.
This beautiful bowl measures 8-inches in diameter and 2-1/8 inches deep.
It is stamped with the earlier blue Lion in Shield mark with “Schumann” below. The word “Germany” is added in script. This mark was used by Schumann beginning circa 1924 until around 1933.
There is noticeable wear on the gold rim as one might expect with a piece of this age that has been lovingly used. There is also an old, smooth, and hardly noticeable chip on the foot that does not impact stability. There is a 1/8-inch scratch in the bottom of the bowl that appears as a darker mark. There are no other chips, cracks, or damage to this remarkable bowl.
It's interesting to note that many of the Schumann porcelain pieces were crated and buried during WWII to protect them.
