Another wonderful find is this American Sweetheart Pink Depression Glass Dinner Plate by MacBeth Evans. American Sweetheart is a beguiling in-mold pattern of fancy medallions made up of stylized flowers, beads, and scrolls. It was very popular during the years it was produced, but it was also expensive by Depression standards. Therefore, sets of American Sweetheart were not as common as the giveaway items, and some pieces, like this 9-3/4 inch dinner plate, are more scarce than others. This plate has a large center medallion and ten panels with smaller medallions around the scalloped rim. Each panel is separated by triple vertical ribs.
This plate measures 9-3/4 inches in diameter, and the 1-1/2 inch rim sits up about 3/4-inch off the table.
Macbeth-Evans produced American Sweetheart from 1930 to 1936. Like most of Depression Glass, it is not marked.
As is common in vintage glassware, there are expected minor surface scratches. There is also a series of tiny surface scratches on the back of the foot, which can be seen in the photos. There are no chips or cracks in this pretty plate.
