More elegant than the well known Depression Glass patterns, Fostoria made this quality sugar and creamer in the Lafayette pattern in their lovely pink called Rose. Lafayette, #2440, is an elegantly simple blank featuring footed pieces with gently scalloped edges atop a pretty vertical optic. The loving cup shape of the sugar bowl with its scrolled handles is especially sweet.
This beautiful sugar bowl measures 3-3/8-inches in diameter and 5 inches across the handles. It is 3-1/2 inches deep and stands on a 2-inch diameter foot. The matching creamer measures 3-1/8 inches in diameter and 4-3/4 inches across the handle and spout. It is 4-1/4 inches tall at the lip and stands on a 2 inch diameter foot.
This unmarked pattern was made in this color by Fostoria from 1931 to 1944. This pattern in crystal remained in production until 1960.
There is a small 1/8-inch smooth shallow edge chip on the foot of the creamer at the seam, and another tiny pinhead sized nick on the underside of the foot. Neither of these are noticeable and do not detract at all. There are no other condition issues on either piece.
