Imagine serving your Halloween treats in this Art Deco Style Orange Glass Serving Bowl with a Black Rim! This large bowl has orange color fired on the reverse side, with a 1/2-inch wide band of black on the underside of the rim. This reverse technique creates a beautiful shiny interior and a matte finish on the outside of the piece.
This bewitching serving bowl measures 10-1/2 inches in diameter and 4-inches deep.
Though this color combination and the technique were used by many companies during the 1920s and early 1930s, there is no mark to positively identify the maker of this piece.
The description of the condition sounds worse than it looks. There is a tiny 1/8-inch smooth shallow edge chip, and there is significant wear on the foot where the orange is worn away and the clear glass shows through. There is also a U-shaped scratch in the bottom, 2-1/2 inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide, that looks as though it may be a manufacturing flaw. The matte finish of the fired on orange and black on the underside needs cleaning, but the spots remain after a gentle cleaning, and a more vigorous cleaning may damage the color.
