Libbey made these commemorative Double Rocks glasses for Southern Comfort for their 1968 Centennial. Offered here in Sets of Four, these 22K gold and aqua Riverboat rocks glasses are straight-sided. The design consists of steamboats paddling along the river on rectangular backgrounds in aqua and 22 Karat gold. One boat's golden paddlewheel has the initials SC for Southern Comfort, while another is backed with stunning shiny gold. The reverse side of the gold is a beautiful copper tone. Two flowers accent the design, and a narrow gold band around the rim completes these glasses.
Each of these large tumblers measures 4-1/8 inches tall and the heavy bottom is about 1/2 inch thick. Each is 3-1/4 inches in diameter at the rim.
The embossed Libbey "L" is on several of the matching tumblers in this pattern, but it is missing from the bottom of these. "SC" for Southern Comfort" is in the design.
Made by Libbey circa 1968, most have some wear in varying degrees, especially on the gold, as you would expect in glassware of this age. Some are well worn, while others show very little wear, but as a set they are gorgeous. Also called Old Fashioned, or Scotch tumblers, the last photo provides a size comparison of the single Rocks glass to the Double Rocks offered here.
These Commemorative glasses are a wonderful example of Hollywood Regency style, and will be a magnificent addition to any bar set.
