A stunning, large, pale yellow magnolia sprig dominates the Southern Garden pattern on the left side of this delectable mint green two handled round Ballerina Mist chop plate from Universal. The soft brown twig gently follows the curve of the plate with one magnificent blossom sporting pink accents in full bloom and another in half-opened bud. The lifelike flowers are set off by the small green leaves on the lower branches. The pattern, Southern Garden, is usually seen on a white background instead of this delicious mint green.
Made by Universal China, this 'Southern Garden' Ballerina Mist mint green round platter, known as a chop plate, measures 12 inches in diameter, 13-3/8 inches with handles.
The backstamp is Universal's dancing ballerina encircled by "Universal-Oven-Proof, Union Made in U.S.A." and "Ballerina Mist" diagonally across her torso. "This pattern will not fade. It is Permacal" is stamped beneath the circle mark. This piece was made by Universal Potteries circa 1947-1956.
There are expected minor surface scratches and some wear on the platinum trim.
