Another quality Hand Painted Plate from Coiffe, Limoges, France featuring a pair of gorgeous white Water Lilies exquisitely represented as the focus on this lovely plate. A third blossom ready to burst into bloom and a lovely leaf reach up opposite each other from the central blossoms. Soft green lily pads and delicate pink tendrils accent the lifelike blossoms. On a soft peach background, the embossed and scalloped edge is painstakingly trimmed in gold and sage green. The plate is signed by the artist, "HPW," on the front. Using an interesting technique, the artist achieved the white of the lilies by painting only the lines and shading to define he petals, so each blossom maintains the glossy shading of the original white ware plate. The paint gives the rest of the plate a matte finish.
It is marked with the green underglaze Limoges star mark with each letter of Limoges in a point in the star followed by the word "France." This mark was used by the Coiffe Limoges factory from 1890 to 1914. Coiffe Limoges was a maker of fine porcelain white ware that was often sold for decorating by other companies or individuals.
This lovely porcelain plate measures 7-7/8 inches in diameter. The gold is a little worn on the edges, and there are a few very thin gray surface scratches, but the design is still clear and lovely, and there is no other damage to the plate.
