From the "Go Ahead Make a Pig of Yourself" line, these DeForest of California Pottery anthropomorphic salt and pepper shakers are each in the shape of the head of the cutest pigs ever. The molded facial features are highlighted by round, rosy cheeks in each caramel-colored face. Both have DeForest’s distinctive white eyes with large, black irises and long, black, painted-on eyelashes. The eyebrows are painted black, and each raised, black nose is at the center with an incised, smiling rose-red mouth below. Each has a ruffled green collar, and the typical floppy ears of the Make a Pig of Yourself line top each piggy head. The one with three holes has a large “S” in the center of her forehead, while the two-holed one wears a large “P.” Both have rubber stoppers.
Each pig is nearly spherical with measurements of approximately 3-1/4 inches tall by 3-1/4 inches wide by 3-14 inches deep.
There is no mark, but these shakers match the DeForest Make a Pig of Yourself Cookie Jar also listed at Maggie Belle's.
The "Go Ahead Make a Pig of Yourself" line of wares was made by Deforest Pottery between 1950 and the early 1960s.
Both shakers are covered with non-discolored crazing. There are no chips or cracks.
