A Lovely Sadler Cube 2898 Cobalt and Gold Trim Teapot from England. It is unusual to find the Sadler Cube teapot trimmed in cobalt blue! The teapot is off-white with a pretty pink rose with gilded leaves on the front and back and a matching pink rosebud on each of the four panels on the cover. The large roses are framed with gilded scrollwork in relief on the front, back, and the sides near the top of the handle and the pouring spout. Each of the four shoulders is beautifully finished in striking cobalt blue with a gold lattice ribbon down the center of each cobalt panel. The cobalt and lattice design is repeated on the lid, separating each of the rosebud panels. Sparing no detail, the crown-shaped finial atop the cover, down to the stand-up scalloped rim, the handle, spout, and foot are all trimmed in gold. Accents of gold leaves on all four sides complete the elegant and luxurious design.
The cover has the extended porcelain catch down inside, and the teapot has the seven-hole strainer inside at the spout.
This lovely English teapot measures 5-inches tall, 6-1/2 with the cover and finial, and 5-inches wide, 9-1/2 inches across the spout and handle.
Made by the renowned English maker, Sadler, circa 1937 to the 1950s, the embossed mark reads "Sadler England" and the pattern number “2898” is handwritten in gold followed by a gold artist’s mark.
As is usually the case in these teapots, there is allover, non-discolored crazing, but no chips or cracks. The pattern shows little to no wear, and both the cobalt blue and the gold trim are bright and shiny.
