Here is a stunning example of Mid Century Georges Briard Bent Glass in this "Embassy" Butterfly design 22-Karat Gold Square Platter. An elegant Hollywood Regency Style, Embassy is a medallion design of butterflies, filigree circles, and elaborate gold stylized florals. This plate has a large, striking butterfly emblem in the center surrounded by geometric medallions. A 1-3/4 inch band of white with gold medallions and edged in gold runs around the bent rim. The corner medallions match the large butterfly in the center. Alternating circles around the rim contain a filigree sunburst design, while the oval emblems around the center butterfly contain the same fancy gold floral motif. Each design is of 22-karat brushed gold and shiny, reflective gold. A striking feature is the medium blue reverse of the gold on the back of the glass which has a textured frosted application. The Georges Briard signature is in the lower right corner.
This wonderful square tray measures 14-3/4 inches across the diagonal and 9-3/4 inches on each side.
Made by Georges Briard circa the 1950s and 1960s, it is signed "Georges Briard" in the lower right corner.
There are surface scratches consistent with normal use, particularly in the white, but these are not significant and do not mar the beauty of this vintage piece. There are no chips or cracks.
