This Blue Ridge Southern Potteries "Verna" leaf shaped handled dish is as patriotic as it is lovely. Verna features a hand painted design of pink roses and yellow tulips, accented with leaves in several shapes and various shades of green. A raised bunch of blue grapes is under the handle, and tiny blue flowers are dotted throughout the design. The rim is decorated with a pattern of three dots and a dash, Morse Code for the letter V. This pattern was added to stand for Victory during WWII.
This beautiful leaf shaped dish measures 10 inches by 9-3/4 inches at its widest points and 2 inches high at the handle.
It is signed in black script "Blue Ridge China, Hand Painted, Underglaze, Southern Potteries, Inc. Made in U.S.A." This piece was made by Blue Ridge, Southern Potteries during the War years between 1941 and 1945.
There is some barely noticeable non discolored crazing, but there are no chips. This is a lovely historical piece.
