Here is a sweetly romantic Ramekin and Underplate in the Bridal Wreath pattern by Bawo and Dotter Elite Works of Limoges, France, made for HIggins & Seiter, New York. The Bridal Wreath pattern has a delicate pink rose swags with soft greenery around the rim, inside, and outside the bowl, with a matching rose garland wreath in the center bottom of the bowl.
Made in France and sold by Higgins & Seiter of New York, this charming dish measures 1-1/4 inches deep and 3-1/4 inches in diameter. The plate is 4-7/8 inches in diameter.
This small dish is marked with the Red Bawo and Dotter backstamp that reads "Elite Works" above a Shield with "Limoges, France" below, followed by "Higgins & Seiter, New York" with a flourish. A green "Elite L France" is stamped over the red mark on the cup. The underplate has the same marks, but the red is very faded. At the turn of the Twentieth Century, Higgins & Seiter were the largest and finest retailers of fine china and glass in New York City. They started their partnership in 1887, expanded their business with a new 6-story building in 1901, and closed their doors in 1915.
Minor wear and the occasional surface scratch verifies that this lovely set has passed its 100th birthday.
