This charming two handled bowl from Royal Winton is appropriately named "Old English Markets" and features four scenes of the old England Market Place on a creamy yellow background. The illustrations depict Cheddar Cross, a "pedler [sic]," Ross on Wye, and Tailors. The two handles and the rim are trimmed in gold.
Made by Royal Winton during the early 1950s, this small porcelain bowl measures 4-3/4 inches in diameter, 5-1/2 with the handles. It is 1-1/8 inches deep.
The backstamp in black script reads "Royal Winton Made in England A," followed in gold by "Old English Markets, Can.RD. 1952, Aus. RD 29646."
As with most Royal Winton of this era, there is crazing, especially on the back side where there is some discoloration. This is still a delightful piece.
