This Royal Doulton Small Character Jug is a detailed depiction of the Pied Piper. Wearing a red and yellow shirt and a green pointed hat, this gray-haired piper has a well-defined sculptured face and a pointed nose. The handle of this jug is comprised of his flute and a few rats at the top. The spout is formed by the point of his cap. "Pied Piper" is etched on the back of his collar under his long gray curls. These character jugs are sometimes called Toby Mugs, but this is only a head and shoulders depiction. Made by Royal Doulton sometime between 1953 and 1973, this Pied Piper, D6462, measures 3-3/4 inches tall. It bears the familiar Royal Doulton standard backstamp which includes "Pied Piper, D6462, COPR 1953, Doulton & Co Limited" followed by four RD No's. The registration numbers were phased out of the backstamps between 1960 and 1973. We welcome you to enjoy browsing through MaggieBelle's Memories! Thank you!
