Very hard to find Relpo Teen Age Girl Head Vase in an Orange Dress, Two HairBows, and Pearl Earrings! This is a sweet Relpo Teenager Young Lady Head Vase with a pair of bows worn low in her long blonde hair to match her orange dress. Numbered A639, this youthful lady wears an orange bodice with a white piping neckline. Her long, blonde hair is parted in the middle and hangs loose but for the two tendrils caught with the low bows. She wears a pair of pearl drop earrings. Her big blue eyes are framed with painted eyelashes, and her blushing cheeks set off her delicate nose and ruby red lips.
This lovely young lady head vase measures 5-1/2 inches tall on a 3-3/4 by 2-3/4 inch base. The vase opening is about 2-1/2 inches in diameter.
Made by Relpo circa the late 1950s to 1960s, it is stamped simply "A639." The glue from a paper label can be seen in black light. She is pictured in Kathleen Cole's Head Vases book, 2nd Edition on page 118.
Because most of the head vases of the era show some non-discolored crazing, I can’t rule it out entirely, but if it exists here it is not detectable under a magnifying glass or blacklight. Sticker residue does show up in more than one place under black light, and she will need a gentle cleaning. There are some dark marks on the front of her orange bodice that may clean off. Since it is a matte glaze, I won’t attempt to clean it to avoid further wear to the glaze. There are places where the color shows minor wear, particularly on her bows and her eyebrows. There is an old, small edge chip under the glaze at the base of her right shoulder. This appears to be a manufacturing flaw and does not impact either her stability or her beauty. I find no other damage to this elusive young lady head vase.
