This is the darling Hull Little Red Riding Hood Large Salt and Pepper Set. Each Little Red Riding Hood has blue eyes, round pink cheeks, and blond hair peeking out from under her famous red hood. Her cape is tied with a gold bow, and her dress is decorated with blue lines at the collar and the hem of her skirt. The front of her skirt is decorated with a decal of a full-blown orange-red poppy accented with purple flowers, white daisies, and green leaves. Her yellow and brown closed basket is looped over her left arm.
Though most of the decorating work was done by Regal China, Little Red Riding Hood was one of Hull Pottery's most popular lines, patented by Louise Bauer in 1943 and continued in production until around 1957.
Each shaker is 5-1/8 inches tall and about 3-1/2 inches in diameter at the base. There is no mark.
The cork in one of the shakers is damaged, and there is a 1/8-inch hairline extending from the cork in the bottom of the other shaker. There are minimal tiny glaze flakes and pops in the red of the hoods, and the gold on the ties of the capes shows some wear. The left corner of one mouth has flaked off. There is no visible crazing.
