These New Martinsville Line Number 34 "Addie" Black Depression Glass Salad Plates need no additional decoration. Line Number 34, nicknamed Addie, is a 12-pointed blank pattern. The twelve ribbed panels surround a circular center. The beauty of these plates is in the rich black amethyst color that shows purple through it when held up to the light. The color is so reflective that it is difficult to photograph! The last photo is an attempt to show the amethyst color when held to the light.
Each of these plates measures 7-3/4 inches in diameter.
Made by New Martinsville Glass during the 1930s, there is no mark.
As is common in vintage glassware, there are expected surface scratches. On black glass, which is very reflective, these scratches are quite noticeable, yet they don't really detract much from the beauty of black amethyst in these plates. There is a tiny pinpoint nick in the foot (on the back) of one plate. This does not impact the stability of the plate.
