Offered here is the Serene Jackie Kennedy in Mourning Gloved Hand Head Vase. This sought-after head vase of the cherished Jackie Kennedy features the elegant First Lady in a black matte bodice with her applied left hand in a matching black matte glove raised delicately to her face. A white, shading to gray, scarf or veil is draped with subdued elegance over her head and shoulders and down her back. Her side-parted brunette hair curves over her forehead and the right side of her head beneath the veil. Her delicate features capture the poise that defined Jackie, brown eyes wide open and slightly downcast, framed by painted on lashes and eyebrows. A slight blush to her cheeks is set off by her mildly red lips.
She is just under 6-inches tall, and her base is 4-1/8 inches by 3-inches. The opening in the top is 2-3/4 inches by 3-1/4 inches.
Made by Inarco in 1964, it is stamped “E-1852 Inarco leve, (sic) Ohio ©1964” The C for Cleveland and part of the E in the number are missing.
There is a spot of discolored crazing on the bottom, about the same size as the mark, and there is a little more crazing around the edge of the opening. This is not highly noticeable. There are five or six tiny nicks along the edge of her veil where they are hidden by her hand. There is a 1/2-inch horizontal line on the inside at her chin that does not go through to the outside. Her face is lightly smudged, likely from being stored in newspaper. She will need a gentle cleaning. She has a full gloved hand with all of her fingers. There is a negligible nick at the bottom of her right shoulder. All of these flaws are minor in such a special piece. It is unusual to find the matte black trim intact as it is here.
