Another charming offering of Bone China by John Aynsley in this embossed and fluted Teacup and Saucer decorated with Poppies and numbered C1054L. Bunches of lifelike enameled poppies in bright colors of red-orange, plum-pink, yellow, white, and deep blue adorn both the teacup and saucer. Accented with appropriate leaves, the flowers seem to grow carelessly in large arrangements on the front of the cup and one side of the saucer, with smaller groups of two on the back and inside of the teacup, and on the opposite side of the saucer. The background is a very light creamy-yellow color. Embossed with plumes and scrolls, the cup is subtly quatrefoil-shaped with an unusual double scroll handle. Both the cup and the matching saucer are scalloped and trimmed with gold, as are the foot and the handle.
The gently fluted cup measures 3-3/8 inches in diameter and 2-3/4 inches tall. The foot of the cup is 1-7/8 inches in diameter. The fancy handle of the cup adds another inch to the diameter. The matching saucer is 5-5/8 inches in diameter.
The back stamp is the Green Crown above the Aynsley Scroll, followed by "England Bone China." This mark was used by Aynsley from 1934 to 1939. The pattern number C1054L is also on both pieces.
