Offered here is the beautiful Ruby Red by Imperial in an elegant glass Pillar Flute oval bowl with an unusual Metal Frame and Bakelite Accents. Imperial’s ruby color is a rich, deep red with hints of amberina. As the name implies, Pillar Optic is made up of 1/2-inch panels that are rounded on the outside like pillars. The tops of the panels form a scalloped rim. This bowl is unique with its metal frame. Each metal handle is attached with a pair of metal rivets to an oval frame around the base. The handles have a curvy shape resembling the numeral three. They arch up over the bowl, and each has a red, bakelite octagonal piece and a small, red bakelite “jewel” attached. This bowl will be a stunning addition to your holiday buffet!
The heavy glass bowl is 8-1/2 inches long by 5-inches wide and about 2-inches deep. The silver-toned metal frame adds 1/2-inch to the height, and the curled handles arch out and over to make the bowl 10-5/8 inches long and just over 4-inches high.
Pillar Flute was made by Imperial circa the early 1930s until 1955. There is no mark. The unusual handle seems to be a rarity of unknown origin.
The metal frame and bakelite accents show some wear and patina of age, but there is no damage to the glass bowl other than expected insignificant surface scratches.
