This lovely vintage Avon fluted plate with the detailed gold and orchid floral decoration was made by Wood & Sons, England. The Avon pattern has several different floral and fruit motifs within a central raised circular frame in gold. The central motif on this plate is a realistically enameled white orchid edged in maroon and surrounded by greens and other small flowers in yellows, greens, and purples. The background is a gold-edged fluted rim plate in Alpine white, and the inner rim is decorated with an all over wheat pattern in gold.

This sweet plate measures 10 inches in diameter. It is marked in green underglaze with a crown and the words "Wood & Sons/England/2 61." The 2 61 probably indicates a date of February, 1961.

There is slight wear in the gold consistent with age and the expected kiln marks on the back. There is no other damage.
