This pretty Bone China Teacup and Saucer made by Radford’s, England is numbered 8294. Following a tradition begun by Samuel Radford in the late 1800s, bright enamel flowers in red-orange, pink, and blue with brown-dotted, pale green centers decorate the front, back, and inside of the teacup. The flowers are backed by pale green leaves, with dashes of slender brown stalks tipped with red-orange buds. The saucer has two matching flower motifs on opposite sides of the rim of the saucer. The slightly scalloped rims of both the teacup and the saucer are edged with gold, and the handle is also gold-trimmed.

Made by Samuel Radford Ltd., Radford's, circa 1938-1957, both pieces are stamped in green with the Radford Crown and the name, “Radfords” above, and the words “Crown China, Made in England” below the crown. The pattern number 8294 is written by hand on both the cup and the saucer, though it is smudged on the saucer.

The cup measures 2-3/4 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches in diameter at the rim on a 1-3/4 inch diameter foot. The matching saucer is 5-1/2 inches in diameter.

There is a tiny pinpoint dark spot that can be felt on the inside at the gold rim. This may be a nick but feels instead as though there is an extra tiny deposit of material there. There is also a small dark spot, like misplaced color, on the back of the cup under the glaze. The cup tends to rock a bit, but there are no chips on the foot. The enameled design is bright and clear, and there are no chips or cracks.

This is a pretty vintage piece that pays tribute to spring and summer.
