This set of four Z.S. & Co Bavaria Marseille Shape Plates is decorated with Red and Pink Roses. These pretty dessert plates display a garland of pink and red roses backed by leaves in soft green shades. The embossed rim is scalloped, with six 3/4-inch indentations, and trimmed with a gold band of simple scrolls. Each indentation is more elaborately decorated with a garland of gold leaves.
Made by Zeh, Scherzer, & Co. (Z.S.& Co.) around the late 1880s to the early 1910s, each is stamped in green underglaze “Marseille” Z.S. & Co. Bavaria. (Marseille refers to the shape.)
Each is 6-3/4 inches in diameter with a raised circular foot that lifts it 3/4-inches off the table or wall.
Suggested for display only, three of the four have non-discolored spider cracks in the center that do go through to the other side. The fourth plate has minor nicks on the foot that do not impact stability. All have a small amount of wear to the design, as to be expected in plates of this age, but the gold trim shows little, if any, wear.
