Offered for your consideration is this amusing anthropomorphic Frowning Onion Teapot Made in Japan. On a white ground with blush-pink shading, a blue-eyed scowling face decorates the front of this onion-shaped teapot. The handle and spout are done in celery green with slight ribbing to resemble the stem and leaves of the onion. The cover comes to a knot of green sprouts at the top and has a tab hook to hold it inside the rim.
This little teapot measures nearly 6-inches tall with the cover, 3-3/4 inches to the rim. It is approximately 4-1/2 inches in diameter, and 7-1/2 inches across the spout and handle.
Made in Japan circa the 1950s, the only mark is a blue and white rectangular “Japan” sticker attached to the bottom.
There are a couple of negligible edge nicks on the foot that do not affect stability. There are two glaze pops hidden in the eyebrows, and another near the spout. The teapot will need cleaning. There are no other condition issues.
The matching creamer and sugar set, as well as the matching Garlic salt shaker, are also offered in my shop.
