Exquisitely detailed Dresden flowers decorate this Schumann Bavaria Teacup and Saucer. No detail is missed on this sheer porcelain set. A bouquet of multicolor blossoms featuring a large, deep pink rose and an orange mum-like flower, is surrounded by smaller flowers in bold shades of purples, orange-red, yellows, blues, and greens on the front of the cup. The embossed and scalloped rim of both the cup and the saucer are decorated with a gold-trimmed band of cartouches of latticework outlined in scrolling gold fronds, each with a different color blossom as though plucked from the center. The cartouches intersect a band of multicolor flowers in raised relief. Matching single blossoms dot the outside and inside of the cup, and dot the saucer in four places. The rims of both pieces are trimmed with gold, and the foot and handle of the cup, as well as the cup ring of the saucer, are also gold trimmed.

Very much resembling the beloved Empress Dresden Flowers pattern, but made before Schumann named that pattern, it is stamped with the older Schumann Blue Lion and Shield mark that reads “Dresden” above, and “Schumann Bavaria” below the shield. This mark was used by Schumann circa 1900 to the 1920s.

The delicate cup measures 3-3/8 inches in diameter and 2-3/8 inches deep. The saucer 5-3/4 inches in diameter.

More fragile than bone china, it is unusual to find porcelain this old in such good shape. There is a barely noticeable, tiniest edge nick seen with a magnifying glass when the handle is on the left. There is a dark mark above the pink rose on the inside. This can be felt but does not seem to be removable. Based on the other stray marks, such as extra gold just below the rim and near the handle, this too may have occurred in the production. There is a dark glaze pop just above the floral bouquet on the front of the cup and another on the back of the saucer. There is minor wear on the gold rim consistent with use, and any scratches or utensil marks are truly minimal.
