This delightful Mid-Century Red and White Striped Gin Bottle is in the Country Club pattern designed by Yona for Shafford, Japan. The bright red and white stripes set a fun picnic atmosphere, or even a circus feeling, and will be great at your next party! The red stripes fluctuate with the shape of the piece and average about 3/4-inches in width. The word “Gin” is written in black script, with a black ribbon flourish above and below. The red and white plastic-covered wire handle is attached to a 3/4-inch button knob at each side. The pointed and scalloped stopper adds to the circus tent feeling and gives the overall appearance of a stylized rocket shape to the bottle.
Country Club was designed by Yona Ceramics for Shafford, Japan during the 1950s. This bar bottle measures 9-3/4 inches tall, 11-1/8 inches with the stopper. The tapered base is 2-1/4 inches in diameter and the bottle is approximately 4-1/2 inches in diameter at its widest. The opening at the top has a diameter of 1-1/2 inches and the stopper is about 2-1/8 inches at the scalloped rim.
It is stamped in black script “Country Club Designed by Yona.”
These are vintage pieces and may have minor flaws. The colors are bright with minimal wear. There are small nicks at the rim of the top that can be seen in the photos. The cork on the stopper does not fit down completely in the bottle and may not be original. There is non-discolored crazing that is not highly noticeable. There are no other obvious condition issues. To preserve the bright colors, wash by hand before use.
This Gin Bottle is one of three offered. Be sure to look at the Scotch and Rye bottles also offered in my shop. The kitschy set would make a unique gift for Father's Day, or will be spectacular at a Fourth of July picnic!
