The well known and popular Golden Foliage pattern by Libbey Glassware is not often found in the 1 oz. Cordial Set, let alone in the original box! A 1963 advertisement described Golden Foliage saying: "Rich golden leaves stand out in bold relief against the frosty white background..." A gold band runs around the top and bottom of the bowl of each of the six cordials, which is joined to the foot with a six-lobed stem.
Each tiny stemmed goblet measures 3-3/8 inches tall and 1-1/2 in diameter at the rim on a 1-7/8 inch foot. The box is 6-1/4 by 7-1/4 by 2-1/8 inches.
There is no mark on the cordials. The box top reads "Hostess Glassware, Styled by Libbey" with the Libbey Logo of a script L in a circle. The box bottom also has the Libbey Logo and reads "Hostess Glassware by Libbey" on all four sides. One side of the box bottom also reads: "Set of 6/8990 1 oz. Cordial/Made in U.S.A." The pattern name "Golden Foliage" is also on this side of the box.
This long-running pattern was introduced by Libbey in 1956 and discontinued in 1978. There is no damage to the cordials. The box shows some wear and discoloration.
