This delicate Chelsea Gardens Demitasse Cup and Saucer from Copeland Spode is offered for your consideration. Chelsea Gardens is an intricate design of a multicolor floral motif arching down the outside of the straight-sided, fluted cup. The same design with a large blue flower is on the inside of the cup. The matching saucer has the matching motif in three places.
This pattern was made by Spode, Copeland circa 1952 to 1988 with small variations in the coloration. This one is trimmed with a peach lustre (called mustard) trim and is numbered #R9781.
The fine china cup is 2-1/4 inches tall, 2-inches in diameter, with a 1-1/2 inch base. The saucer is 4-5/8 inches in diameter and has a 1-3/4 inch cup ring.
It is marked in green underglaze "Spode Copeland's China, England" followed by "Chelsea Gardens" in pink. There is also a hand-written "R9781 26" in gold on the cup, "R9781 (4)" in pale green on the saucer, with a pink "10" stamp.
