This striking black Teacup and Saucer with raised bright flowers is numbered B4824 by Aynsley Bone China. This cup and saucer set is finished in glossy, solid black, the perfect color to make the vivid hand-enameled flowers pop! Full-blown poppy-like blooms in vivid pinks, yellows, and blues grow up one side of the saucer on willowy stems with green leaves. The opposite side of the saucer is decorated with a single blue flower and a pink bud with slender green leaves. Bits of the floral design spill over into the center cup ring which is seamless in continuing the black ground. The cup has the same bright blossoms on the front and a matching blue flower on the back. Both the tapered cup and the matching saucer have smooth rims trimmed with gold. The foot and the handle of the cup are also outlined in gold. There is a narrow band of gold around the white inside top of the cup. From the wonderful black to the tapered cup shape and smooth rims, this is a great Art Deco piece for your collection.

The teacup stands just over 2-5/8 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches in diameter at the rim, tapering to a 1-7/8 inch shallow foot. The matching saucer measures 5-3/8 inches in diameter.

The backstamp is the familiar green crown above the Aynsley Banner, followed by "England." The words "Bone China" flank the crown. The pattern number B4824 and the number 25 are hand-painted in black on both pieces. This mark was used by Aynsley between 1934 and 1939.

Some of the black glaze has flaked away leaving a small fan-shaped white spot where the bottom of the handle attaches to the cup. There is an extra dollop of gold just above and to the left of the handle. There are a couple of negligible pinpoint sized spots where the white shows through the black. The glaze along the edge of the saucer is of uneven thickness. Any wear on the gold is truly minimal, and there are no other condition issues.
