Distinctive California Pottery is offered here in this Weil Ware "Blossom" Celadon Green Three-Part Divided Relish Dish. The pattern, Blossom, features hand-decorated raised, white five-petaled flowers with a yellow center and brown dots to represent stamens. The flowers bloom on deep brown branches with elongated deeper green leaves. The long section of the dish has the longest branch with two blossoms and one tight bud, and one of the other sections has a shorter branch with one blossom, one leaf, and one tight bud. The celadon green is prettier and slightly deeper than the picture shows.
This dish measures 9-1/2 inches by 6-inches wide and 1-1/4 inches deep. The long section is 9-1/2 by 3 inches, and each of the smaller sections is 4-7/8 by 3-1/4 inches.
Made by Weil Ware between 1946 and 1955, during the short time the company was in business, it is stamped in brown with a Burro in the center of the arched words " Hand Decorated/Weil Ware/Made in California/Des.Pat.Appl.For" Much of the wording is illegible and has been determined from other pieces of Weil Ware. There is also a 10 in a circle.
Typical of this pottery, there are long, non-discolored lines of crazing that are clearly visible in sunlight yet nearly disappear in shadow. There are no chips or cracks. Sticker residue seen in the photo will be removed before shipping.
Weil Ware Blossom is similar to and would blend well with Weil Ware Brentwood.
